Friday, May 22nd, and it's going to be a nice day at Lake Wallenpaupack to start the Memorial Day Weekend, then the rain and showers will take over.
Consider making a donation to your LOCAL VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY. There are quite a few located throughout the Pocono Lake Region at Lake Wallenpaupack and they need your support.
These selfless volunteers show up the rain, high heat, and snow when your CO2 false alarms go off. They help retrieve your phones dropped in the lake, and they roll out of bed at 2am for fire calls, motor vehicle accidents, and patient transfer assists, then go to work, and still manage to find the energy to continue their volunteer work at a weekend breakfast or barbeque fundraiser.
Go online and search for the one closest to your vacation home, make a generous donation, then tell all of your weekend warrior friends to do the same. In one rainy weekend, you can help them to continue the valuable services they provide to our local communities.
Use the inclement weather to complete tasks that you put off, like making sure your boat, trailer, and atv documents are up-to-date, especially if you'll be trading-in, or selling. Locate your Insurance, Title, and Registration documents to see if any changes are needed, or if you missed a renewal.
The rain will hamper outdoor fun for most of the holiday weekend, but there's still plenty to do throughout the area, and a hike in the rain can provide a greater appreciation of areas around the big lake that you normally may not notice.
There are plenty of restaurants, delis, bars and breweries, and they'll be busy for sure. But if you look around, you'll also see the small boutique and specialty stores that line mainstreets, and even backroads. Visit them, buy a souvenir, a sweatshirt, or a specialty olive oil. They need your support.
Local garden shops have some beautiful flowers, fun wind spinners, and cool metal art to jazz up your outdoor areas. These businesses need your support, too. Rainy weekends impact all of us during the busy season.
